Although 88.8% of 36 women taking stilboestrol tablets obtained initial suppression of lactation as compared with 32.3% of 37 controls taking placebos, filling of the breasts occurred between 7-15 days after the first course of treatment in 30.5% of cases and further treatment was necessary. "Permanent success" was obtained in 53.3% of stilboestrol cases and in 32.3% of controls.
