Inhibition of plant growth by some nitrophenylureas

Twelve nitrophenylureas were synthesized and applied to Black Valentine beans 8 days after planting when the primary leaves were two thirds full size. Each compound was sprayed at 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 lb/ac dissolved in ethyl cellosolve containing "Tween 20" and replicated twice. Observations were made 12 days later and included 1) measurement of stem elongation, 2) fresh weight of tissue above the node bearing primary leaves and 3) area of the 1st trifoliate leaf.
