Inhibition of root-knot development on tomato by systemic compounds

Peacock gives the results of tests with a number of chosen compounds in the search for downward-moving systemic nematicides using root-knot as an indicator nematode. Downward movement by translocation linked to photosynthesis seems to be the explanation of the systemic action obtained. Spraying tomato plants with maleic hydrazide gave a reduction in the amount of galling, following exposure to infestation, although this chemical is not highly toxic in vitro.
