Inhibition of some metalloprotein enzymes by 3-amino-1,2,4,-triazole

Glucose oxidase is not inhibited by 3-amino-l,2,4-triazole(ATA). Tyrosinase and fatty acid peroxidase are inhibited by both ATA and imidazole. Lactoperoxidase is inhibited by ATA while horseradish peroxidase and the peroxidase found in seedlings are not inhibited. The inhibition of lactoperoxidase by ATA is easily reversed by dialysis against dilute saline. Increase in H2O2 does not overcome this inhibition. The relationship between ATA concentration and guaiacol (the reducing agent used in the peroxidase assay) concentration suggests non-competitive inhibition. The possible physiological significance of these findings is discussed.
