Inhibition of succinoxidase by L-gulonolactone oxidase in liver preparations from tocopherol-deficient rats

For previous work see Abst. 354, Vol. 31. Succinoxidase activity of homogenates but not of mitochondria in liver from rats deprived of vitamin E declined more rapidly than normal. The activity of mitochondria decreased further when L-gulonolactone and its oxidase were added; addition of either alone had no effect. Ascorbic acid also reduced the activity. Tocopherol, ethylenediamine tetra-acetate and Mn2+ prevented the decline of activity produced by the gulonolactone oxidase system.
