Inhibition of the antibiotic activity of streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin by human milk.

In vitro activity tests on strains of E. coli and Staph. aureus showed that the antibiotic activities of both streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin were reduced after 24 hr. contact with sterile human colostrum or milk at 37 degrees C. The loss of inhibitory activity was believed to be associated with binding of the antibiotics to the milk proteins.
