Inhibition of the infection centres of Tobacco mosaic virus by hydrochloric acid

Inhibition of the infection centres of Tobacco mosaic virus by hydrochloric acid

Bull. Inst. agron, Gembloux, 29: 2, 219-232

At the Inst. Agron. de l'Etat, Gembloux, treatment of Nicotiana glutinosa leaves with HCl and carborundum before, at the time of, or immediately after inoculation with TMV decreased the no. of local lesions as a function) of acid conc. and duration of action. The result is considered to confirm Stanley's conclusions. The acid appears to act at the level of the wounds made by the carborundum, in the epidermal cells.
