Seventy American, Netherlands and Swiss in-breds studied at Ultuna and Weibullsholm in 1952-54 showed marked variation in vigour and earliness, particularly the Wisconsin lines, among which flint inbreds had higher vigour and were about two weeks earlier in development than dents. Among Netherlands lines, some were very early and good in ear production while others were high in yield of green matter. Swiss lines equalled the best American lines in vigour but were later in development.
