Investigations on parasitic stress in the course of experimental larval ascaridosis (A. suum)

Investigations on parasitic stress in the course of experimental larval ascaridosis (A. suum)

Acta Parasitologica Polonica. 10: 12/20, 177

The effect of migrating larvae of pig Ascaris on the host was investigated with reference to the theory of stress reaction. 4 guineapigs were exposed to 7 doses of infective eggs (from 3, 500 to 300, 000) and examined after 10 days. An increase in the weight of the adrenal glands was observed in infected animals. Adrenal hypertrophy occurred soon after invasion and gradually increased. Cholesterol, ascorbic acid and fatty substances decreased in the adrenal cortex.
