Abstract
At the Bavarian Institute of Animal Breeding a series of investigations has been undertaken and a survey is given of the current and completed results. German Simmentals have proved to be suitable as nurse cows, each being capable of rearing 2.5 calves with an av. daily gain of 930 g. when loose-housed during 6 mths. of winter.
