Investigations on the soil-structure-building capability of annual legumes and cereals. 1. The effect of preceding crops and time of their harvesting on the subsequent crop.

Legumes (vetch, peas, seradella, lupin) or cereals (wheat, barley, oats) were harvested at three different periods before growing rye on a podzolic soil. Yields of rye following cereals decreased with increasing lateness of the preceding harvest, but they increased after legumes irrespective of harvest time (except sometimes after seradella).
