Is the flight of Trypodendron lineatum (Oliv.) (Col. Scolytidae) strictly necessary?

Describes experiments in which 60 adult beetles (2 females to 1 male) taken from their galleries in July before emergence, were kept at 25-30 degrees F. until January, when they were released in a cage at constant illumination, 60 degrees and 80% r.h., where possibilities of flight were severely restricted. The beetles soon became active and started boring into a piece of timber after 2 days. They continued for 10 days, making 12 galleries in all.
