Laminate budding, a technique for budding incompatible woody plants

Laminate budding, a technique for budding incompatible woody plants

Proc. 9th annu. Mtg Plant Prop. Soc, 194-7. bibl. 7

Since the double-shield budding techniques of Garner and Nicolin have not generally proved successful in North America, a comparable method was developed which gave a better percentage take. This "laminate bud" technique consists of 2 separate budding operations spaced 3 or more weeks apart. Buds of the desired scion variety are first budded onto a shoot of a compatible interstock variety, spirally round the stem at intervals of about 3 in.
