Over a 6-8 year period applying 80 ton/ha farmyard manure annually, increased the organic-matter content by about 1 %. Town-refuse compost had a marked effect on the top soil of river clay; the effect of farmyard manure was less but occurred to a greater depth, probably due to worm activity.
