Penicillin blood levels in the horse with fortified benzathine

Australian Vet Jour 34(3): 82-88

Penicillin preparations, 50% benzathine, 25% procaine and 25% potassium penicillin, were administered intramuscularly at rates of 25,000 and 50,000 units/kg. No significant difference in serum levels were obtained. The mean serum levels at one hour ranged from 0.6 to 3.5 [mu]g/ml.after 120 hours they varied from 0.027 to 0.04 [mu]g/ml. Marked variations were noted between horses and within the same horse at subsequent treatments.
