Prediction of barley malting quality. A comparison of a micro-malting method and barley analysis

Barley hybrids from a wide variety of parents were tested (1) by a micromalting technique, consisting in the analysis of green (unkilned) malt, (2) by barley analysis, which involves determinations of extract and saccharifying activity and (3) by a macromalting test; Montcalm was used as standard. Out of 135 hybrids, 21 did well in test (3), and of these, test (1) selected 19 and test (2) 16. Barley analysis also selected 19 which were not satisfactory in macromalting tests.
