Sources of resistance to blast occur among native Taiwan varieties, Taiwan mountain varieties, glutinous varieties and occasionally Peng-lai (= Horai) varieties. Numerous crosses have been made between varieties of the above four categories and agronomically desirable Peng-lai forms. A negative correlation appears to exist, however, between blast resistance and desirable agronomic characteristics. Resistance appears to be incompletely dominant.
