Recommendations for the application of organic mulches in coffee

Recommendations for the application of organic mulches in coffee

Kenya Coffee 25: 14-15

The usual mulch grass, Pennisetum purpureum, increases the K content of the soil and adversely affects the uptake of Mg by the coffee. Sisal waste has a much lower K content. Work is also in progress on alternative grasses such as Panicum maximum, Cymbopogon validus and Hyparrhenia spp. Details are given of mulching young and mature coffee in the various regions.
