Recommended techniques for hill country farmers

Recommended techniques for hill country farmers

N.Z. J. Agric, 97: 457-463

Suggested management, based on experimental data, of a hypothetical typical North Island hill farm is outlined. The stock is 1200 adult and 450 young Romney ewes and 180 polled Angus cattle. Slight overstocking gives better production per acre than understocking. Early weaning makes possible better management of stock and pasture. Hogget ill-thrift is largely prevented by running the hoggets on prepared paddocks for 6 to 8 weeks and having 10 to 12 acres chou moellier in reserve.
