Records of bighorn hybrids

Records of bighorn hybrids

J. Mammal, 41: 523-525

Reputed hybrids between bighorn (Ovis cana-densis) rams and domestic (Ovis aries) ewes have been reported on several occasions. The F1 hybrids are said to have light coats (often slightly tinged with tan), bald faces, longer legs and shorter tails than domestic lambs. The fleece is often a mixture of hair and wool. Hybrid lambs generally do not live longer than a few months, and those that reach sexual maturity sometimes show reduced fertility.
