In plot tests on fine sands NH4NO3, urea and ureaform were surface dressed and cottonseed meal was incorporated; in pot tests all N sources were incorporated with soil. In the plot tests recovery of N from urea was 53.9 and 45.6% as compared with 72.8 and 47.0% from NH4NO3 at 25 Ib and 100 lb/ acre N respectively; this difference was not apparent in pot experiments.
