Recovery of yields in sugarcane from adequate fertilization of low fertility Land

In a five-year rotation of cowpeas + lupin, sorgho, plant cane, first and second-year sugar cane, 1/50-acre plots received N, P2O5 and K2O treatments from nil to 72-72-72 Ib/acre (standard). There was almost complete recovery of productivity in the year following adequate fertilizer application. Thus, the cane yield of an unfertilized plot which was 12.49 tons/acre below that in plots given standard treatment, showed a deficit of only 0.81 ton a year after a 72-72-72 dressing.
