Red and yellow varieties of krasnozem.

Red and yellow varieties of krasnozem.

Dokl. s.-kh. Akad. Timiryazeva, 52, 435-442

In the Batum region the erosion crust from which krasnozemic soils have been formed contains inclusions of non-weathered or only slightly weathered parent rock. In a reddish-brown erosion crust these inclusions were basaltic and in a yellow-brown erosion crust they were andesitic. The andesitic inclusion contained more felspar and less pyroxene, olivine and brown vitreous matter than the basaltic inclusion.
