The red cell volume was estimated by dilution of the subject's cells with his own cells labelled with 51Cr and blood volume was derived from packed cell volume in 201 male prisoners selected as normal after an extensive medical examination. Results are published in detail. Both red cell and whole blood volume are related to bodyweight and height; regression equations are given.
