Reduced milk losses through after-spraying of milk cans.

Reduced milk losses through after-spraying of milk cans.

Off. Org. K. ned. Zuivelb, 49: 30, 613-16

The amounts of milk draining from freshly emptied milk cans during 5-sec. time intervals up to 30 sec. were determined. It was shown that about 60% of the milk drained from the cans during the first 15 sec., and about a further 10% during the next 15 sec. It is estimated that in a factory receiving 10 million kg. milk annually in 400, 000 milk cans, prolongation of the draining period from 15 to 30 sec. would increase the amount of milk drainings by about 4, 000 kg. per annum.
