Regeneration of burns and of forests destroyed by Dendrolimus sibiricus in the mountain Pinus sibirica forests of the south Cis-Baikal area, and the role of vertebrates in this process.

Regeneration of burns and of forests destroyed by Dendrolimus sibiricus in the mountain Pinus sibirica forests of the south Cis-Baikal area, and the role of vertebrates in this process.

Bjulleten' Moskovskogo Obscestva Ispytatelej Prirody (Otd. Biol.). 63: 4, 49-56

Investigations in these forests were made in the Cembretum hylocomiosum and C. bergeniosum. In unburnt stands killed by D. sibiricus, forest regeneration proceeds successfully, and no human assistance is required. The adverse effect of vertebrates on P. sibirica regeneration is less than the good done by Nucifraga caryocatactes in seed dispersal.
