Correlations were found between yolk colour and (a) shell weight (r = - 0. 14), (6) shell thickness (r = - 0.08), (c) loss in weight after storage for 24 hrs. at 20 degrees C. (r = +0. 07), (d) shell porosity (-0. 05). In white- and brown-shelled eggs there were correlations between the appearance of the yolk at candling and (a) yolk colour (r= +0. 29 and +0. 22 resp. ), and (b) the colloid content of the yolk (r = + 0. 24 and + 0. 17 resp. ).
