Response to alcohol in chronic alcoholics with liver disease; clinical, pathological, and metabolic changes

Lancet 272(6964): 335-340

N balance and liver function were studied in 7 chronic alcoholics aged 33 to 67, who had clinical signs of liver disease and malnutrition. During an 8-day control period the patients were given diets providing 2285 to 2800 Cal., adequate vitamins, 25 to 60 g. protein and 4 to 10.9 g. N daily.
