In the experimental season Soviet Tsigai were used on 40 Shumen, and in the control season Shumen were used on the same 40 Shumen . Although the number of coming on heat again was greater when the Tsigai were used, the final percentage of remaining infertile was lower. Birth and body weights, body measurements and av. daily weight gains to 1 yr. of age were greater for the crossbreds than for the purebreds. Fleece weight, the yield of clean wool, and wool density were greater and the percentage of medullated fibres was reduced in the crossbreds; fibre length was not appreciably different in crossbreds and purebreds. The milk yield and its fat content were higher in the crossbreds. Resistance to parasites was greater and the incidence of lameness was lower in the crossbreds. -Abstract of summaries.
