Short-day treatment as a means of selection of early forms in the sunflower.

Agrobiologija (Agrobiology), 2, 76-80

Breeding sunflowers for short growth periods and short stems, suitable for combine harvesting, at Rostov is reported. The methods consisted of (1) growing varieties under short days and selecting short-stemmed and early forms which appear to breed true for these characters, and (2) training for these characters by growing varieties under short days for several generations.
