Some biochemical and immunological aspects of host-parasite relationships. Comparative immunochemistry of larval and adult forms of Schistosoma mansoni

Examination of extracts of lyophilized cercariae and adults of Schistosoma mansoni showed that they contain less carbohydrate than do other helminths and only a small amount of protein(bound carbohydrates. Cercariae contain 50% less carbohydrate but more protein than adults. The proteins are extremely sensitive to extremes of temperature. Electrophoretic analysis revealed 10 protein systems in adults and 8 in cercariae.
