Residents in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture were examined for pinworm eggs, using a single Scotch tape technique. The infection rate was 43.4% for kindergarten children and 34.1% for third-year schoolchildren. The calculated infection rate of triple successive examinations, estimated from these data, was 62% for kindergarten children and 49% for schoolchildren. Out-patients, who came to a gynaecological clinic, showed an infection rate of less than 10% for patients under 25 years of age.
