Duke compared the numbers of Onchocerca volvulus microfilariae taken in by groups of "wild" Simulium damnosum fed on the legs of men with different infection rates. The mean intake of microfilariae rose in proportion to the density of microfilariae per mg. of skin, until a concentration of about 150 microfiiariae per mg. was reached.
