In pot experiments on acid red clay soil, on acid granite soil and on neutral alluvial soil, applying green manure in amounts equivalent to 1 % of the soil weight just before planting decreased dry-weight yields by 22, 88 and 55% respectively; oxidation-reduction potentials of leaves and stalks also decreased.
