Studies on parturient paresis in dairy cows. 4. Calcium and proteins in bovine serum normally, after parturition, and in parturient paresis

Studies on parturient paresis in dairy cows. 4. Calcium and proteins in bovine serum normally, after parturition, and in parturient paresis

Acta vet. scand 2: 330-349

For part 3 see Abst. 5884, Vol. 29. 4. Blood samples were taken from 60 healthy cows, 60 healthy cows not more than 72 h after calving and 47 cows with parturient paresis. Ca in serum was shown to fall after calving even in healthy cows, but to lower levels in cows with parturient paresis. The protein content also was shown to be lower after calving, but was similar in healthy cows and those with parturient paresis.
