Studies on the serology of visceral larva migrans. I. Hemagglutination and flocculation tests with purified Ascaris antigens

Studies on the serology of visceral larva migrans. I. Hemagglutination and flocculation tests with purified Ascaris antigens

Journal of Immunology 83: 297-301

The following antigens were tested for specificity in the tannic acid hemagglutination and bentonite flocculation tests: (a) ascaris whole worm and tissue saline extracts; (b) whole worm and tissue polysaccharide fractions; (c) a protein fraction (Melcher). Antisera prepared against these ascarid antigens in rabbits and toxocarid antigens in rabbits, monkey and a dog as well as sera from children presumably infected with visceral larva migrans were used. Twelve of 14 antigens were serologically active, but no specificity was demonstrated.
