Studies with twin cattle. 1. Effect of restricted feeding of heifers during growth on production in the first lactation.

Studies with twin cattle. 1. Effect of restricted feeding of heifers during growth on production in the first lactation.

Stocarstvo 17: 548-559

Four pairs of monozygous twin heifer calves were studied from a mean initial age of 152 days. One of each pair was fed on a plane intended to give daily weight gains of 750 g at the start, falling to 450 g as weight increased to 500 kg. The other of each pair received only 65% of that ration, until the middle of pregnancy after which they had full feed. In prepara-tion for lactation all heifers got 2 kg concentrates daily in the last 2 months of pregnancy.
