In order to improve agricultural statistics which, up to now, have been obtained by subjective estimates, an attempt was made in four departments of France to measure the 'biological' yields of wheat and barley. Four-level sampling was used, giving sampling ratios between 1 in 2, 800, 000 and 1 in 5, 800, 000. Results were obtained rather rapidly and seem to prove that the statistical technics were good.
