The comparative epidemiological and epizootiological importance of sandflies (Phlebotominae) in the Serakhs focus of the zoonosis of dermal leishmaniasis (Turkmen SSR).

Zool. Zh. Moscow, 42: Pt. 9, 1383-1391

The Serakhs district of Turkmenia is constantly threatened by outbreaks of dermal leishmaniasis, and cases occur every year in the valley of the Tedzhen river. Phlebotomus papatasi (Scop.) and P. dentatus Sinton (Sergentomyia arpaklensis Perfil'ev) are the predominant sandflies in the burrows of Rhombomys opimus in the valley.
