Phosphorus acaricides gave poor control of Panonychus (Metatetranychus) ulmi (Koch) on fruit trees in the Dutch Province of Zeeland in 1957, and chlorbenside, fensoh and chlorfenson failed in 1960 and 1961. Enquiry showed that resistance to a given compound appeared after about five years' use, or in the course of 25 generations.
