By means of column chromatography in which the stationary phase consisted of acidified silica gel and the moving phase of mixtures of chloroform and n-butanol, fatty acids higher than C3, acetic, formic, pyruvic, lactic, succinic, glycolic and citric acids (but not oxalic acid) were quantitatively separated. Oxalic acid was eluted from the column when oxalic acid was used in place of n-butanol.
