For part 1 see Abst. 1906, Vol. 30. 2. In a trial divided into 7 periods and lasting 6 months, 7 groups of 8 Leghorn hens were given a basal diet low in carotenoids and, in alternating periods, supplements rich in carotenoids. These were grassmeal 5 or 2%, ethyl ester of beta -apo-8-carotenic acid 3 or 4.5 mg per kg diet, or beta -apo-8'-carotenal 4, 6, 20 or 30 mg per kg. All improved the colour of egg yolks.
