Most of the N stored in the cotyledons of soyabean seedlings was translocated to other parts of the plants at 2-3 weeks after germination. In sand cultures, the forage yield of plants supplied with N for the first 5 weeks after germination, and thereafter with symbiotically-fixed N, was as high as that of plants supplied with manurial N throughout their growth.
