In 1954 and 1955 apple trees of 4 varieties were sprayed 4 times after flowering with urea solutions of 1.0 and 0.75%, in addition to receiving an application of 400 kg. ammonium sulfate per hectare. Leaf samples were taken 3 times during the growing season. Urea sprays had a marked effect on the N content of the leaves, the difference between the leaves of treated and control trees being 0.62-1.19% N after the fourth application.
