The literature is reviewed and reference is made to it throughout. Reasons for the disposal of 3632 Spotted Mountain bulls in Upper Baden were obtained from the 1925-48 records. Notes are given on each of the 30 causes for disposal. Of the total, 25.1 % were culled on account of economic reasons, accident or disease which are detailed under 12 headings; they were culled at an av. age of 4.6 yrs.
