The influence of antagonistic fungi on Thielaviopsis basicola (Berk. et Br.) Ferraris

The influence of antagonistic fungi on Thielaviopsis basicola (Berk. et Br.) Ferraris

Acta bot. need, 9: 1, 59-118

At the phytopath. Lab. 'Willie Commelin Scholten', Baarn, Netherlands, T. basicola was found to be common in local garden soil and was isolated from the roots of Primula obconica and Nicotiana glutinosa. The latter, very susceptible to black root rot caused by this fungus, was chosen as an indicator to assess the effects of fungal antagonists in the soil. Of many soil fungi isolated, 38 displayed antagonism to T. basicola on cherry agar, about 20% of them markedly.
