The main problems concerning the method of general pollination in breeding annual and biennial cross-pollinated plants

Compared with breeding methods involving heterosis, the method of general pollination, which involves open pollination among numerous strains and varieties, is slow but obviates inbreeding depression and is thus more suitable for such crops as rye, which have a low coefficient of reproduction.
