Experimental data are quoted which lead to the conclusion that the " cold " method of silage preparation is more reliable than the " hot " method. The former results in lower loss of fodder and does not lead to the formation of protein compounds difficult to digest. Mincing and solidification of the fodder, the maintenance of anaerobic conditions, use of ferments and chemical preservatives are discussed with reference to recent Russian and foreign literature.
