The nutrition of high yielding cows. Studies of the metabolism of dairy cows. Part 5. Mineral balance in long-term trials during lactation under different conditions of management.

The nutrition of high yielding cows. Studies of the metabolism of dairy cows. Part 5. Mineral balance in long-term trials during lactation under different conditions of management.

Arch. Tierernahr 9(5): 327-49

The mineral balance (Ca, P, Mg, K, Na and Cl) of 2 dairy cows was studied during 5 experimental periods within 8 months. For each period, full details are given of mineral intake from food and water, mineral excretion in faeces, urine and milk, and of mineral balance. Retention of Ca and P tended to increase with increasing lactation and pregnancy.
