Working ability and food requirement of small horses compared with large horses and cows

Working ability and food requirement of small horses compared with large horses and cows

Tierzuchter 8: 160-163

The working ability of Norwegian Fjord, Hafling, and Iceland Ponies was compared with that of Rhenish-German cold-bloods, and Red Angeln, Black Pied Lowland, German Red and Yellow Franconian cows. Shetland Ponies were later included in the comparison. In pulling average loads small horses were quicker than large horses or cows. The results of performance tests on maximum pulling capacity during 2- and 4-hr. periods are tabulated.
